Never lose your keys again
Unfortunately, the key to your own studio is often more elusive than you would like: whether you forget it or a colleague/guest artist misplaces it. Electronic locks can help here. The only thing you need is your cell phone and an app.
The idea
Since the cell phone has become an independent part of the body for the majority of the population, the idea of simply using it to do everything, including opening and closing doors, is an obvious one. There are now many solutions for this and they are often much cheaper than you might expect.
The approach is always the same: a motor that is mounted on the inside of the door and operates the closing mechanism. This motor is controlled via Blue Tooth using a dedicated app.
Interesting extras
In addition, the manufacturers offer many extras, such as
- The lock can also be operated via WLAN, i.e. from anywhere in the world
- Coupling with video camera
- Operation via number pad
- v.m.
The question “Oh, have I locked the door?” can be answered at any time and from anywhere with just a few taps. You could even quickly lock the door on the way home. In addition, the apps usually also come with user management, so that it is now easy to grant or withdraw access to the studio.
The pitfalls
But there are a few things you should be aware of: Like any technology, an electronic lock can sometimes cause problems (batteries flat, mechanism jammed, etc.). In this case, you should choose a solution that can still be operated conventionally using a key. Access in an emergency (flood, fire), e.g. by the landlord, is also secured in this way.
Another point may be how often the batteries in the locking motor need to be changed. A very important point at this point: the app should display the charge status of the batteries. 😉
Our favorite: Dana Lock
We looked at a number of models here and ultimately opted for the Danalock V3 solution for the following reasons:
- Danalock V3 comes with its own locking cylinder that can be installed in any standard door.
- Three conventional security keys are supplied, which can also be used to open and close the lock mechanically from the outside.
- Coupling with the WLAN is possible.
- It is inexpensive and was very easy to install.
Clarify with the insurance company
As a rule, the established systems on the market meet the usual requirements in terms of burglary protection, especially against simple hacker attacks. Nevertheless, it is advisable to clarify the desired system with your own insurance company before purchasing.
Once this hurdle has also been overcome, nothing stands in the way of your digital door lock.
